THE HISTORY OF GODWIN AND ALISHA BY JENS
KOLLENBERG
"About a year ago, I recommended my close friends of more than 20 years, the
Calamias, to send a suitable bitch to Norway and breed to a young male I had
purchased as a puppy for another close friend of nearly 40 years. It took me
almost a year to find a puppy I was happy with but at the age of 8 months,
Godwin v. Bayrischen Loewen arrived in Norway. It didn't take long before
general reports confirmed that the Johanssons were the owners of an
outstanding young Dobermann.
Godwin's sire, the magnificant Ilane Darafal, doesn't need any special
introduction. It was of course also a personal pleasure to note that the
mother line over Caluna connected well with the nearly 40 years of my own
breeding program: (Ninjo, Kalina, Alida, Ali, Hilo, Burga, and Tex back to
1968 - as well as Qullas, Mia, Anka, Ali, Hilo, Burga, and Tex). Before
purchasing Godwin for the Johannsons, I had also been instrumental in helping
two other good friends in Norway buying two stunning bitches with outstanding
character from one of Caluna's previous litters ... just to prove the genetic
value.
A year long discussion took place before the Calamias decided to breed two of
their bitches, Elke and Isha Isaba v. Adlercrest to Godwin. Logistically it
would be better for Godwin to go to California than for the "ladies" to travel
to Norway, and the Johanssons had no problem in agreeing to a
"four-months-holiday" in the USA for their male.
My previous personal involvement with, and knowledge of, Elke and Isha, as
well as with a long line of their forebears, has lead me to believe that the
two combinations could match well, both pheno-typically and genetically. Both
bitches are daughters of Pelangristamms Armin SchH2 (Graf v. Norden Stamm -
Falina v. Norden Stamm), a male that I bred in Australia and later sold to the
Calamias. Fairly tightly linebred, Armin has seemingly shown an indisputable
ability to pass on his qualities to his children. Character wise he was a very
robust male with excellent nerves, balanced drives and an uncomplicated
nature.
I've not met Elke personally but I had her mother, Ulrika v. Adlercrest, in
Germany to train for 10 months. During that time she was worked and trialled
at the Rottweiler Club, at the SV, and at DVG, and she had no problems in
passing SchH3 IPO3 and FH with flying scores. Every helper coming in contact
with her was just full of praise. She was a very pretty girl, too, and as easy
to work as the excellent bitches in her tail-line (Chessy v. Falltor SchH3,
Kastra v. Norden Stamm SchH3, Alida v. Flandrischen Loewen SchH3 FH, and Amida
v. Flandrischen Loewen SchH3)
I've had the pleasure of seeing and judging Isha and I was taken by her typey
appearance, her dryness and noble outline. Seemingly having a very good
nature, and heavily line bred on dogs I know personally for several
generations, has made me equally hopeful that this combination with Godwin
might bring some good Dobermanns, too."
